Just got my first tractor--JD 870 with JD 440 Loader, 4WD diesel, included scrapers, drill augers, rototiller, disc and mower. 230 Hours! I have small 4acres with horses...wasn't looking for tractor but too good a deal to pass up. Plan to do all fluid maintenance soon as the storms slow down.
Any ideas on how to quickly find out year of manufacture?
Its been stored outside, and I'll be doing the same at my place...any precautions or help to preserve it?
I need to replace the rear highway lights and the seatcushion...haven't yet found an easy to navigate web site (would definitely consider aftermarket parts as well as JD)--suggestions?
This looks like a great site--Glad I found you! Jenni Moser

Changing all fluids and filters on a used tractor is good to do unless there's certainty about their condition. A trip to the nearest JD dealer also is good unless you already know the place. Dealers are pretty good places to find out the basics of getting a new tractor up and running. They also can order manuals if they didn't come with the tractor. A dealer should be able to suggest after-market items as well as JD equipment. People around here are pretty helpful too.

Universal seats are pretty common but may take some tinkering to mount on the suspension. I put a factory replacement on my Ford because I thought the height of an after-market one would be too high.

Barngal,
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for your 870? I've been looking for a similar setup but thought prices have been kind of high. Thanks. ....
